Whatizit?

A thingamabob? A whatchamacallit?

A while back a good friend of mine gave me a neat western whiskey go-with. It has a lot going for it. It's big; measuring over 5" across and 6" long. It is heavy and, I think, made of solid brass. It's slightly deformed, and shows evidence of being subjected to a fire.

The first thing that jumped out at me when I saw it was the horse shoe logo of Spruance Stanley & Co., but with Wolters Bros. & Co. name on it.

A second look revealed something else; WoTters Bros. not WoLters. Also odd, is the abbreviation of California; CALA / not Ca. or Cal.

To me, it appears to have been part of something else. I figured I'd toss it out there and get your take on it.

Whatizit???

////////////////////////////////

My initial inclination was that it was part of a clock. Many, many years ago, while metal detecting the site of a town in No. Cal., which burnt to the ground in it's entirety on Oct. 17, 1902,  I dug something very similar, advertising Dr. Harter's Wild Cherry Bitters. Although badly deformed, it had quite obviously been an advertising clock.

A fellow collector emailed me a photo a few minutes ago. Mystery, quite obviously solved...

 Thanks Brandon!

  1. Pretty sure it is part of a clock. Looks like the Simmons Liver Regulator clocks.
